Depending on where you live it might be easier to just watch a game in progress.
I play in a weekly Road to Legends campaign in Menlo Park. The game mechanics are essentially the same with a couple of rule changes. You could come observe some evening.
If you go to one of the larger gaming conventions in the area Kublacon, Pacificon, or Dundracon, there is often a game or two going on in the open gaming areas.
Otherwise, if you want to get your group together sometime I could play the overlord and just run the game (four players and the overlord).
The game is really pretty simple for the players as long as they have a cheat sheet showing how much movement various actions takes. There are several online.
This re-write of the rule on boardgamegeek is easier to understand than the one that comes with the game.

Ok, got a group that is reluctant to try new things unless they have someone to hold their hand.
To that end, I need to be the hand-holder, and understand the basics of Descent, so that I can get them on board.
Not looking or expecting to be a master overnight, just need to be shown the ropes by someone knowledgeable in the game.
Very much appreciate the consideration,
Ray~
