Just this past year, I've gotten really interested in these games. I've run two sessions of Mouse Guard and two sessions of Dogs in the Vineyard, but I'm looking for other players who are interested in trying out these "indie" or "small-press" games on a semi-regular basis.

I've played all sorts of RPGs, ran a D&D 3.0 campaign for a year, ran a Mage: The Ascension for a year, and intend to run a D&D 4.0 eventually, but wanted to stretch my RPGing skills with these alternative games.

Anyone looking to play? Anyone looking to run?

Those who have their own stable games, how have they been going?

Currently I'm running a weekly Pathfinder game set in the desert and trying to work in as many genies as possible. Everything is better with genies. I'm also in a monthly group that rotates games and gamemasters frequently. We've played Dogs in the Vineyard and Burning Sands, the Burning Wheel variant set in a Dune-inspired world. For that group I've been running a Changeling mini-series set in the near-future, which has been going well. I like the story opportunities that open up when things like entering people's dreams and binding your life to a promise are in play, and it seems most gamers have not done them to death yet.

I would be interested in playing and running more indie games and am just catching up with the latest trends. I have Mouse Guard but have not played it yet. I ran In a Wicked Age for a while, and still like it, but it seems to have fallen off the charts. I could offer to run that. I've also got Monsters and Other Childish Things sitting on the shelf.

I've read that Mouse Guard is a simplified version of the Burning Wheel game, so I'm really interested in your experiences with Burning Sands. How did you group take to the game system? I assume it had the GM Turn/Player Turn structure. Did your players like it, or did they find it too artificial? As a GM, how did the system feel?

Actually I was a player. I was new to the Burning Wheel mechanics and the GM and the other players were relatively unfamiliar with them as well. Not too surprisingly we played it more like a traditional roleplaying game. I think we appreciated that there were innovative aspects to the game but in that particular instance we did not quite make them work. I think if we played it more than once we could have figured it out, but this group tends to play a new system every month. Like many innovative games out there, it takes a while to learn, especially since we are so used to more traditional systems. I think it would have been easier if we could have watched an example of how it was intended to be played instead of just trying to read about it.

I would love to be a player in any and all story games. If you get something together, message me on here, or try my e-mail: teamblackzion@gmail.com
