20 pts. for my Arcantrik Force Generator? I mean I guess filing resin bears a premium, but still… Or maybe this is a ploy for dipping a pair War Wagons?
The rules at present are cool by me, as it really puts every player on an even footing, regardless of faction. I understand I made no friends with the Journeyman paint competiton, so I'll just have to find myself an audiobook for the last Sunday of each month (Bram Stoker's Dracula most recently, for the record).
Random sidenote: Just how strict are the painting requirements for the BAO? Are we talking Hardcore requirements?

Well maybe 1.5x? The Arcantrik Force Generator (including its little buddies) is still more work than say Discordia. Not that my painting is anything exceptional, but I painted Mulg (12 points) in a few hours and he is much easier than 2 tuffaloes/5 infantry/a weapons platform for 9 points. It just seems like since a few of these will probably get painted up over the next few months we might want to consider the additional time it takes for a 120mm base. And, I hope I won't actually dip a War Wagon… but only time will tell.
At the BAO they seemed to just require that you had paints on the models, just a few colors separating the different parts. This might help put things into perspective: I was actually complimented on my painting. Hah.

I'd rather not hand out extra points for any paticular model beyond the normal points. Some models are just going to be harder to paints either because they are cheap models point-wise or just more details to paint. I am sure a cryx player would rather paint 10 bane thralls over 20 mechanithralls but rather paint a Harrower over either units…all being 10 pts respectively. Just like there are many low-cost solos that are just as complex to paint as a many of the caster or casters that are hell of lot harder to paint than the other casters.
The hobby point system that the Journeyman League did was trying to find that balance of size, quantity and complexity but we saw the flaws and are trying to move away to a system. What I am hoping at the end when we do voting, that people will not only factor in things like the quality of what is painted but the quantity too. I know I will have more respect if someone painted 30+ models to a decent standard than someone who painted 4 models well. Is the system, perfect? No. There will be ways to cheese the points but I'd like to see how this system works in January before we start try to tweek or change things but in the end this is a vehicle to motivate people to paint.

I support Chad's approach — we might get weighed down in trying to asess difficulty or challenge by model via points. For me, this monthly competition is just a way to push myself to paint more (and focus).
As much as I would like to win, it's more about the process for me (sadly, my actual PLAY may reflect this attitude…). Someone gaming the system is their loss as far as I'm concerned — poor sportsmanship in my book.

Sure, it was just a suggestion. I am fine either way and I expect other players will be painting up battle engines before me anyways. I promised myself not to buy any other Trolls except eGrissel until everything else is fully painted..
