Hey guys, I recently started playing Malifaux a few months ago and am pretty new to the miniature scene but am enjoying my terrible paint jobs.  I don't think I've stopped by on a Wednesday before, anyone mind giving me a bit more information about this?  Such as how many models you are playing, if it's only Warmachine or if people are using Hordes as well, and if there are any games going on with more than just two people at a time?  About the last one, I'm a long time boardgamer and multiplayer MTG player and would love for a multiplayer miniature game.  Anyways… I was on the privateer press site the other day and loved the models so I figured I'd see what was going on down at Endgame.

Thanks,

Elliott

Hey, Elliott! Right now folks are only playing Warmachine because Hordes is still in the testing stages of the mk2 ruleset. There's a pretty decent turnout on Sundays (two to five people) but Wednesdays are still getting off the ground (last week was just me and Frank) as we all figure out how to get more WM into our schedules. WM works best as a one-on-one game, simply because multiplayer games take longer…but I've played some pretty good 3 or 4 player scenarios in the past so it's not out of the question.

I am very pleased to say that Frank and Douglas (who are leading the WM revival here) are both serious about playing with painted models so our games right now are small – 15 or 20 points, which translates to a warcaster and either 2-3 'jacks or 2 'jacks and a few infantry. They'll get bigger as more models get painted.

I'll be around if you're free tomorrow night (Weds) so I can easily give you a demo. I have plenty of models. I think your Magic brain will like the synergy/interaction at the core of the game. Speaking of which, maybe if there's an open board game table we can get some EDH in too. ;)

Yeah, I can definitely make it out tomorrow–thanks Finn.  Any idea what time you'll be around/free?  Earlier in the night would be better, but not necessary.  Oh and I'll bring the EDH decks for sure Cool

Frank said he'd be around at 4ish so I'm going to try to make it down near that time. Nina's in school tonight so I'll probably stick around for most of the evening though.

Sounds good, I should be able to make it down a few minutes before six.  See you tonight.

Elliott, I hope Finn was a lot more forgiving in your demo game than he was in mine!

Hah, he was both helpful and forgiving… and smashed me to pieces!  Laugh

I had a lot of fun though and really like the mechanics a lot.  Finn gave me some Khador advice and I've narrowed it down to either the Old Witch or the Butcher.  I like the playstyle of the witch a lot, but am finding myself tempted by the butcher's sheer bad-assery.

At least I got the point level right this time! I still feel bad about that, Frank. Embarassed

Elliott, as much as I fear the Butcher I think it'd be great to see him on the table. I have a juggie, a destroyer, and a kodiak – if you want, we can proxy him up (I have Goreshade, who's also on a med base) at 15 or 20pts on Weds and see how you like him.

That would be great Finn, thanks.  I'm pretty sure that I can make it on Wednesday, but I will let you know if that changes–as there's a slight chance I might have a dinner obligation.  I'll see if I can make it through the rules by then as well…

After looking through all the units, it seems like the list you sent me makes the most sense for the butcher–although I would probably try and work a war dog in there at 25 pts.  I don't like feeling as if there's not much room to deviate though and I'm worried the butcher might be a little too straightforward/slow.  Plus I would miss out on some of the more interesting Khador units and I really like the fluff surrounding Irusk and the Bears (best sculpts in my opinion as well.)  It would be nice to proxy out the butcher force at 15 pts and see how that feels before purchasing anything.

Hm, apparently I got the math problem wrong and the forum ate my post?  Anyways, it turns out that I do have dinner plans Wednesday and won't be able to grab a game.  I'll come by after work to drop off your book Finn and hopefully watch part of a game, though.  See you then :)
